Village Care

General
A registered charity, Village Care has been in existence since 1987. It was set up to help ‘persons in need, in particular the elderly, and covers the same geographic area as the Aldborough Surgery (approximately 5 mile radius including Aldborough and Thurgarton; Sustead; Erpingham and Calthorpe; Wickmere; Alby and Thwaite, Hanworth; and Roughton)

Transport
For those with no access to transport, volunteer drivers transport patients to the Surgery or to other medical appointments, or to visit relatives in hospital or care homes. Sometimes, transport is also provided to meet ‘social’ needs. Enquiries: Anne Murat 01263 761597

Tuesday Lunch Club
Most Tuesdays at 12.30 pm a cooked two course meal is provided at a subsidised cost (currently £2.50) at Aldborough Community Centre. About 35-40 people attend each week. Some of those attending are brought by volunteer drivers. Meals can be delivered to people who live near to the Community Centre , if they are unable to come.. Enquiries: Elaine Hayton 01263 768059

Helping Hand – New service. 
From March 2007, Village Care will pilot a ‘Helping Hand’ initiative for persons in need who live in Aldborough and Thurgarton. This initiative involves volunteers responding to requests for practical help , such as help with minor maintenance and technical problems (e.g. checking smoke alarms, changing bulbs, fuses, resetting heating timers etc), form filling, shopping as well as social support such as visits, phone calls and reading.
